Functional Capacity Evaluation

NYU Langone Occupational and Industrial Orthopedic Center offers functional capacity evaluations to determine an employee’s ability to perform physical work. A functional capacity evaluation consists of 36 tasks designed to objectively describe a person’s maximum capabilities for dynamic strength, position tolerance, mobility, coordination, fine motor skills, balance, and endurance.

People may be referred for functional capacity evaluations if they have reached maximum medical improvement but continue to have issues related to returning to work or with re-injury. They may also be evaluated if there is a need to quantify their physical capacities to determine disability status or functioning in order to return to work. A functional capacity evaluation may also be used before a job search or job placement, as well as when a person requires evaluation of their work abilities for medical or legal reasons.

NYU Langone Occupational and Industrial Orthopedic Center is a licensed facility for the administration of physical work performance evaluations and a member of the ErgoScience Network, which offers quality assurance protocols to ensure the validity of the reports. Evaluation results are user-friendly, accurate, and can stand up to the most stringent scrutiny.
