Supportive Care at Perlmutter Cancer Center
At NYU Langone’s Perlmutter Cancer Center, we understand that cancer can affect every area of your life, from your family and work to your mental and physical wellbeing. That’s why our supportive care team provides palliative care services to improve your quality of life during cancer treatments.
Quality of Life as You Define It
Our supportive care services are available for patients currently diagnosed with cancer, at any stage of illness or treatment. We approach your needs based on what’s important to you. Our program can help reduce the physical and emotional burdens of the disease, whether you have been recently diagnosed or have lived with cancer for some time.
Supportive care can include determining the goals of your care; assessing and managing pain and other symptoms; and providing nutrition services, emotional counseling, integrative medicine, advance directives, and mind–body services.
Our supportive care team works together with your clinical team in helping you and your family during treatment. Your team may include a variety of experts including oncologists, integrative health professionals, nurses, nurse practitioners, nutritionists, palliative care physicians, physical rehabilitation specialists, psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers.
