Sports Performance Center Team

The Sports Performance Center team is made up of experts with a depth and breadth of knowledge and experience in exercise physiology, sports psychology, and nutrition.

Heather A. Milton, MS, Senior Exercise Physiologist

Ms. Milton is a board-certified exercise physiologist and strength and conditioning specialist. She is certified in Functional Movement Systems® and by the Titleist Performance Institute. She develops specialized programs to help athletes reach their maximum potential and ability. Ms. Milton creates unique and motivational programs to inspire health and fitness clients and designs injury prevention programs for at-risk athletes and youth sports teams. She also identifies limitations that may affect sport performance, including gait faults in running, swing faults in golf, and swing, kick, and throw patterns in rotational sports, such as baseball, soccer, and football. Ms. Milton leads group fitness classes at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center and is a clinician with the Running Lab.

Samantha Heller, MS, RDN, Clinical Nutritionist

Ms. Heller is a registered dietitian and exercise physiologist. She has expertise in chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. Her clinical interests also include weight management and sports. She is the host of “Samantha Heller’s Health and Nutrition Show” on SiriusXM® Radio's Doctor Radio station and author of The Only Cleanse: A 14-Day Natural Detox Plan to Jump-Start a Lifetime of Health. Ms. Heller is a clinician with the Running Lab.

Nicole Lund, MS, RDN, Clinical Nutritionist

Ms. Lund is a registered dietitian and certified personal trainer. She has expertise in sports and performance nutrition. Ms. Lund is a clinician with the Running Lab.

Bonnie Marks, PsyD, Staff Psychologist

Dr. Marks specializes in mindfulness and recovery from injury, sports psychology, and meditation. She performs neuropsychological evaluations, cognitive remediation, and psychotherapy, and she leads presentations on integrative medicine. She serves as a guide for athletes with disabilities during the New York City Marathon and volunteers with the USA Women’s Wrestling Team as a consultant on performance issues.

Andrea Ybarra, BS, Program Coordinator

Ms. Ybarra is a certified personal trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine. She is the point of contact for all Sports Performance Center services and handles all the administrative efforts. She assists with the development of wellness programs and coordinates the Running lab. Her areas of expertise include health promotion and education, weight management, and senior and youth fitness. Ms. Ybarra leads group fitness classes at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center.

Belkys DeJesus, Administrative Assistant

Ms. DeJesus helps organize, set up, and schedule the Running Lab and wellness classes. She received the NYU Langone Team Spotlight Award in 2005.

Running Lab Team

Members of the Running Lab team are experts in orthopedics, physical therapy, and various therapeutic techniques, and can help runners at all levels.

Jolan Browne, DPT, PT, OCS, Senior Physical Therapist

Dr. Browne is a senior physical therapist at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center. She is board certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) as a clinical specialist in orthopedics. Her clinical interests include postoperative and conservative management of shoulder, knee, and ankle injuries. A former track athlete, she enjoys running and biking and looks forward to completing her first triathlon. At the Running Lab, she performs foot and ankle assessments.

Wil Colón, PT, MS, SCS, Clinical Specialist

Mr. Colón is a clinical specialist at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center, where he specializes in the management and prevention of orthopedic and sports injuries. Certified as a clinical specialist in sports physical therapy by the ABPTS, Mr. Colón is also involved in the clinical education and mentoring of staff physical therapists. A founding member of the Running Lab, his interests lie in video analysis and foot and ankle injuries in runners.

Gauri S. Dhamnaskar, PT, MS, OCS, Senior Physical Therapist

Ms. Dhamnaskar is a senior physical therapist, certified orthopedic clinical specialist, and is credentialed by the APTA as an advanced clinical instructor at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center. She is a Graston Technique® provider focusing on soft tissue mobilization and is certified in the Kinesio Taping® Method. Her clinical interests include rehabilitation of postsurgical trauma and sports-related injuries of the upper and lower extremities. As a member of the Running Lab, Ms. Dhamnaskar performs strength and flexibility assessments, develops runners’ final reports, and speaks at the marathon lecture series.  An avid short- to mid-distance runner, she practices Pranayama yoga, which focuses on breath control.

Corina Ehrenberg, PT, Senior Physical Therapist

Ms. Ehrenberg is a senior physical therapist at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center. She is certified in Functional Movement Systems® and Astym® and is a Pilates mat instructor. Ms. Ehrenberg’s clinical interests include manual therapy and treatment of running, sports-related, and dance injuries. She performs foot and ankle assessments for the Running Lab.

Rick Kassler, PT, MSPT, OCS, SCS, Program Manager

Mr. Kassler is program manager of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and the Sports Performance Center. He is certified by the ABPTS as a clinical specialist in both orthopedic and sports physical therapy. His areas of interest include sports medicine postoperative care and sports- and running-related injuries. As a founding member of the Running Lab, Mr. Kassler moderates educational sessions for our runners.

Mark Schulingkamp, DPT, PT, OCS, SCS, Senior Physical Therapist

Dr. Schulingkamp is a senior physical therapist at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center. He is board certified as a clinical specialist in orthopedics and sports through the ABPTS. He manages traumatic and repetitive athletic injuries at both the Running Lab and Concussion Center. At the Running Lab, Dr. Schulingkamp performs running video analysis and strength and flexibility assessments. He also develops runners’ final reports.

Mira Tych, DPT, PT, Senior Physical Therapist

Ms. Tych is a senior physical therapist at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center. She is credentialed by the APTA as an advanced clinical instructor and is trained and certified in Functional Movement Systems®, lymphedema management, and vestibular rehabilitation. Ms. Tych’s areas of clinical interest include running and sports overuse injuries and concussion-related neck injuries. She performs strength and flexibility assessments for the Running Lab. A former competitive tennis player, she now enjoys yoga, running, hiking, and backpacking.

Kate VanDamme, DPT, PT, OCS, Cert. TMM, Senior Physical Therapist

Dr. VanDamme is a senior physical therapist at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center. She is certified in the management of temporomandibular joint disorders and as an orthopedic clinical specialist by the ABPTS. A distance runner, Dr. VanDamme takes special interest in the evaluation and treatment of runners and postoperative athletes. At the Running Lab, she performs foot and ankle assessments.

Fiona Moore, DPT, PT, OCS, SCS, Senior Physical Therapist

Dr. Moore is a senior physical therapist at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center. She is a board-certified clinical specialist in orthopedics and sports through the ABPTS. Dr. Moore is certified in Functional Movement Systems®. Her areas of specialty and clinical interest include orthopedic manual therapy, treatment of overuse and sports-related injuries, and movement analysis. At the Running Lab, Dr. Moore conducts foot and ankle assessments and develops runners’ final reports. A former internationally ranked swimmer and collegiate water polo player, Dr. Moore now enjoys sprint triathlons, running, and swimming.

Juli Deng, DPT, PT, OCS, Cert. MDT, Senior Physical Therapist

Dr. Deng is a senior II physical therapist at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center. She is a board-certified clinical specialist in orthopedic through the ABPTS and is certified by the McKenzie Institute in the mechanical diagnosis and treatment of the spine. She is credentialed by the APTA as an advanced clinical instructor. Her areas of specialty and interest include orthopedic evaluation and management of mechanical spine disorders, postsurgical and overuse sports injuries, and running-related injuries. As a member of the Running Lab team, Dr. Deng performs strength and flexibility assessments and develops runners’ final reports.

Jennifer Gallinaro, DPT, PT, OCS, Clinical Specialist

Dr. Gallinaro is a clinical specialist at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center. She is board certified by the ABPTS as a clinical specialist in orthopedics. In addition to having obtained Medical Level 2 Certification through the Titleist Performance Institute, Dr. Gallinaro is a Functional Movement Screen professional and a certified Pilates mat instructor. Her areas of specialty and clinical interest include postoperative shoulder rehabilitation and golf- and running-related injuries. A founding member of the Running Lab, Dr. Gallinaro conducts video analysis.

Melissa Hirsch, DPT, PT, OCS, Cert. MDT, Senior Physical Therapist

Dr. Hirsch is a senior II physical therapist at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center. She is a board-certified clinical specialist in orthopedics through the ABPTS. She is also certified by the McKenzie Institute in the mechanical diagnosis and treatment of the spine. Her clinical interests include the treatment of running injuries and the management of spine dysfunction. At the Running Lab, Dr. Hirsch performs strength and flexibility assessments, develops runner’s final reports, and speaks at the marathon lecture series.

James Koo, DPT, OCS, SCS, COMT, Supervisor

Dr. Koo is an outpatient physical therapy supervisor at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center. He is board certified as a clinical specialist in both orthopedic and sports physical therapy by the ABPTS. He is a certified orthopedic manual therapist and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapists. Dr. Koo maintains an active clinical practice, specializing in orthopedic and sports manual physical therapy and subspecializing in treating runners and triathletes. A founding member of the Running Lab, he performs video analysis and moderates educational sessions. Dr. Koo has a black belt in tae kwon do and is a volleyball setter, a marathon runner, and an Ironman triathlon finisher.

Mia Palazzo, DPT, OCS, Cert. MDT, Program Manager

Dr. Palazzo is the program manager of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and the Sports Performance Center. She is board certified as a clinical specialist in orthopedics through the ABPTS. She is also certified by the McKenzie Institute in the mechanical diagnosis and treatment of the spine. Dr. Palazzo’s areas of specialty and interest include concussion-related neck pain, mechanical spine disorders, and running-related injuries. As a founding member of the Running Lab, Dr. Palazzo moderates educational sessions for our runners.

Alexandra Russomano Nelson, DPT, PT, Staff Physical Therapist

Dr. Nelson is a physical therapist at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center. She performs foot and ankle assessments at the Running Lab. She is a certified Kinesio Taping® practitioner, as well as an advanced APTA-credentialed clinical instructor. An athlete and runner herself, Dr. Nelson is passionate about helping her patients minimize injury and maximize efficiency.

Bethany Ridenhour DPT, PT, OCS, CSCS, Staff Physical Therapist

Dr. Ridenhour is a staff physical therapist at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center. As a member of the Running Lab, Dr. Ridenhour performs strength and flexibility assessments and speaks at the marathon lecture series. She is a board-certified clinical specialist in orthopedics through the ABPTS and a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Dr. Ridenhour is certified in the Functional Movement Systems®, a certified Ironman coach, and a clinical instructor credentialed by the APTA. She runs triathlons and completed four Half Ironman distance races.
