Beatrice W. Welters Breast Health Outreach and Navigation Program

The Beatrice W. Welters Breast Health Outreach and Navigation Program helps women of color in underserved New York City communities access breast health services and clinical trials. The program was established in 2016 by Beatrice W. Welters, former U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, philanthropist, and Perlmutter Cancer Center advisory board member.

Through outreach and educational programs in community venues, such as beauty salons, churches, and mosques, program leaders identify women who need breast screening and provide them with active support as they move through the healthcare system, from diagnosis and treatment to survivorship. This may include reminders about and rides to and from medical appointments, assistance with record keeping, and help communicating with doctors and other staff.
