One of the highest-volume centers in the country, we offer advanced treatment for all types of heart rhythm disorders.
NYU Langone’s Heart Rhythm Center offers a breadth and depth of experience that has earned it international recognition for the diagnosis and treatment of virtually every type of cardiac rhythm disorder, including atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter, bradycardia, genetic heart rhythm disorders, ventricular arrhythmias, and supraventricular arrhythmias.
Equally as important, our team of board-certified cardiac electrophysiologists and specially trained nurse practitioners and physician assistants provides patients with a continuity of care that extends from the initial consultation to treatment intervention and, for some patients, long-term device monitoring and follow up.
What Sets Us Apart
Our excellent patient care and advanced treatment options have made us one of the highest volume arrhythmia centers in the country, and studies have shown that centers that treat the most patients are likely to have the best outcomes.
For more than 30 years, we have treated people who have some of the most difficult and complex conditions, often referred to us by other hospitals. We’re able to bring the latest, most innovative therapies to the bedside—therapies available at few other centers in the country—because the Heart Rhythm Center is actively involved in basic and clinical research.
For example, we’ve pioneered radiofrequency ablation, a procedure that has revolutionized the treatment of atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter, atrial arrhythmia, ventricular arrhythmia, and supraventricular tachycardia. Our specialists have performed thousands of ablations over the years.
In addition, we serve as a leading referral center for the implantation of pacemakers and cardiac defibrillators, and cardiac resynchronization for heart failure. While pacemakers and defibrillators can be life saving, they are also complex technical devices. The Heart Rhythm Center team manages and evaluates a patient’s device and its leads, which connect the device to the heart.
We have performed hundreds of lead extractions, in which a lead must be removed due to factors such as damage to the lead or excess scar tissue forming around it or infection at the site. To ensure patient safety, lead extractions are performed in NYU Langone’s hybrid operating room, featuring the most advanced imaging technology present in a surgical suite.
The Heart Rhythm Center is also a training center and quality care model for medical professionals and caregivers around the world. We have the distinction of being endorsed by the Heart Rhythm Society and the European Heart Rhythm Association.
Our Team Approach
The Heart Rhythm Center is a critical part of NYU Langone’s Cardiac and Vascular Institute, one of the nation’s leading centers for the diagnosis and treatment of heart and vascular disease. Over the past three decades, our distinguished and tightly knit team of cardiac electrophysiologists has worked with echocardiologists, radiologists, cardiac interventionalists, heart failure specialists, cardiovascular surgeons, and basic and clinical scientists to come up with treatment plans tailored to the specific needs of each of our patients.
Our team of cardiac electrophysiologists has also collaborated to establish innovative programs, such as NYU Langone’s Heart Failure Advanced Care Center, providing coordinated clinical care to optimize heart failure treatment, and NYU Langone’s Cardiovascular Genetics Program to assess cardiovascular risk, focusing on inherited causes of sudden cardiac death and offering several personalized therapeutic options.
The Heart Rhythm Center isn’t simply a place where you go to have a procedure done. It’s a warm and welcoming environment where our staff is passionate about giving you the best patient experience possible. To that end, we make ourselves available at any hour of the day to answer your questions and respond to your needs.
Our specialty is building relationships, many of which include long-term treatment and device monitoring.

Larry A. Chinitz, MD
Director | Electrophysiology, Cardiology
Dr. Chinitz works closely within a team of eight board-certified cardiac electrophysiologists who strive for excellence in patient care. Dr. Chinitz established NYU Langone’s Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Program and NYU Langone’s Heart Rhythm Center to provide state-of-the-art cardiac rhythm management of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias. He pioneered the development of catheter-based therapy for cardiac arrhythmias and is the principal investigator of several active clinical research trials. His research centers on the development of novel technology for use in catheter ablative therapies, investigation of neurostimulation, pharmacotherapy to help regulate arrhythmias, and other innovative treatments for patients at risk for sudden cardiac death.View Full Profile
