My Research

Stephen M. Warren, MD, FACS is Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery, Associate Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, Radiology and Medicine, Associate Professor of Cell Biology, Director of the Institute or Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Laboratories, and Director of the Craniofacial Surgery Fellowship at NYU Medical Center. He practices Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as well as Craniofacial Surgery. During his medical training at the UCLA School of Medicine, Dr. Warren was selected as a Howard Hughes Research Scholar. He spent 2 years with Steven A. Rosenberg, MD, PhD at the Surgery Branch of the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health and then completed medical school. Dr. Warren trained in General Surgery with Donald D. Trunkey, MD at Oregon Health Science and then completed a 3 year postdoctoral research fellowship with Michael T. Longaker, MD at New York University and Stanford University. Dr. Warren trained in Plastic Surgery at Harvard Medical School. He completed his fellowship training in Craniofacial Surgery with Dr. Joseph G. McCarthy, MD at the Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at NYU Medical Center. Dr. Warren is a Diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of twenty professional societies, an ad hoc reviewer for eight scientific journals, and a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, Plastic Surgery International, Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and the Annals of Plastic Surgery. He has authored over two hundred textbook chapters, clinical, and scientific articles in journals such as Tissue Engineering, Nature, Bone, Journal of Biologic Chemistry, Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, New England Journal of Medicine, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He has trained 35 research and clinical fellows. Dr. Warren has diverse basic and health services research interests including: tissue engineering, outcomes research, and regenerative medicine.
