Professional Development

Nurses at all levels of practice are supported and encouraged to advance their knowledge and career trajectory through participation in continuing education, professional development, and transition to practice programs.

The goal of the NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island Nurse Residency Program is to support new graduate nurses while they transition into clinical practice. The curriculum addresses critical areas such as patient safety outcomes, the professional role of the nurse, and leadership. The program is evaluated by looking at factors such as stress, support, prioritization, and professional satisfaction.

The Nursing Professional Advancement Program (NPAP) helps individual nurses promote their unique talents and receive professional recognition for their accomplishments. NPAP is peer driven to ensure objectivity, reliability, and staff empowerment. In addition, NPAP fosters team building and peer support, provides a pathway for staff development, increases job satisfaction, and can be useful in succession planning.
