There’s a lot to know and consider before going through with genetic testing. Who is a candidate? When should it be done? What do the results mean?
Ophira M. Ginsburg, MD, director of the High-Risk Cancer Genetics Program at Perlmutter Cancer Center, tells SurvivorNet who is encouraged to get genetic testing, when, and why. “The real question of who is going to qualify for genetic testing is, to be honest, a moving target,” says Dr. Ginsburg. “Nowadays you can even self-refer and ask for testing, but we encourage only those who have a family history to get that kind of service if you need it.”
