Currently, safety or efficacy studies for cosmetic products on the market are lacking and many skin and hair products aren’t regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. How do consumers know what to look for and what to avoid?
CBS News spoke with Arielle Nagler, MD, associate professor in the Ronald O. Perelman Department of Dermatology at NYU Langone, to clarify what it is that patients can do when shopping for these kinds of products.
“I always recommend that patients and consumers make sure they know where their cosmetics are coming from and they read the active ingredients. There are some products that tend to cause reactions and thus tend to be avoided,” Dr. Nagler says.
