Would you let your children play football? That’s the question on the mind of millions of parents in light of concerns about concussion and long-term risk of repeated blows to the head.
BuzzFeed Parents interviewed Dennis Cardone, DO, associate professor of orthopedic surgery and pediatrics, and co-director of the Concussion Center at NYU Langone Health, about what some of the risks are. He points out that sports offers many benefits for kids as well.
“That’s all of our goals—push sports, get all of our children involved in sports, and make them as safe as possible,” Dr. Cardone tells BuzzFeed.
BuzzFeed also visited a local Brooklyn football team whose coaches were trained by the Concussion Center to administer sideline tests for concussion.
