Annual Head & Neck Cancer Screening
The Perlmutter Cancer Center Community Outreach and Education Program offers free head, neck, and throat cancer screenings each April.
We offer screening for many types of cancer.
Free Screening Available
Studies show that oral human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is linked to head and neck cancer, and its incidence is on the rise. Smoking, drinking alcohol, and chewing paan (a form of chewing tobacco) are well-known risk factors for head and neck cancer.
We offer free head and neck cancer screenings once a year.
Anyone over age 18 is welcome to attend the annual screening. A visual inspection of the head, neck, and throat takes place during the screening. You receive your screening results at the time of the exam. We encourage you to share your results at a follow-up appointment with your doctor.
Screening can save lives. During our 2019 event, of the 35 people screened, 3 people were recommended for further head and neck evaluation, 2 people were recommended for an immediate consultation for a skin lesion, and 1 person was recommended for an immediate consultation for a thyroid mass.
For more information, please visit our events calendar or email cancerevents@nyumc.org. The annual screening event is cosponsored by the Division of Head and Neck Surgery, Department of Otolaryngology.
