Services at NYU Langone Seaport Orthopedics

NYU Langone Seaport Orthopedics offers specialized services—such as hand surgery, physical therapy, podiatry, and hip, knee, and shoulder joint surgery—as well as comprehensive spine care and pain management.

Spine Care

Our experts are part of NYU Langone’s Spine Center and take a team approach when managing problems related to the neck and back. We recognize that many people with spinal conditions and injuries may benefit from a treatment without surgery.

Surgery is considered only when medically appropriate. Surgical options often include newer, innovative, minimally invasive approaches; artificial disc replacement; microscopic surgery; and spinal fusion.

Each of our physicians has subspecialty training and expertise in problems of the spine. We actively involve other medical specialists, including those in neurology and rheumatology. We collaborate with counselors, physical and occupational therapists, and colleagues who offer smoking cessation and nutritional guidance.

Surgery, when necessary, is performed at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital or Tisch Hospital. This provides our patients with access to some of the most highly trained professionals with expertise in postoperative care of spinal conditions, including the experts at Rusk Rehabilitation.

Pain Management

Our pain management specialists treat people who experience acute and chronic spine and joint pain. The cause of pain is specific to each person, so we firmly believe that good pain management begins with a good diagnosis.

Many patients are treated for conditions that cause shoulder, hip, and knee pain. Others receive treatment for spinal disorders, including herniated discs in the neck or back, spinal stenosis, and osteoarthritis of the spine. Our treatment strategies consider a person’s overall medical condition and emotional wellbeing.

Some of the treatments we may recommend include:

  • physical therapy
  • medication
  • biofeedback, which is a relaxation technique that may help to reduce pain
  • trigger point injections
  • nerve blocks
  • major joint injections
  • epidural injections of the spine
  • facet joint injections
  • radiofrequency ablation
  • implantation of permanent catheters or pumps and spinal cord simulators
