Pediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology Care
Doctors at NYU Langone Diabetes and Endocrinology Associates—Mineola offer comprehensive care for your child. Our team includes board-certified pediatric endocrinologists, certified diabetes care and education specialists with advanced training in diabetes, registered dietitian nutritionists, certified insulin pump and sensor trainers, and licensed clinical social workers. Our doctors work closely with your family to develop a personalized treatment plan, and we provide pediatric diabetes support groups and symposia for our patients and community members. The American Diabetes Association recognizes our program as meeting the national standards of diabetes self-management education, and our insulin pump program is one of the largest on Long Island.
Our experts also provide specialized care and support for children with Down syndrome, developmental disabilities, and Turner syndrome. For more information on these programs, please call Lori Benzoni at 516-663-2112 or email lori.benzoni@nyulangone.org.
Down Syndrome Program
Our multidisciplinary team provides compassionate and coordinated care for children with Down syndrome from birth to age 19. During a half-day visit, patients are able to see specialists that include a pediatric endocrinologist, registered dietitian nutritionist, feeding and swallowing specialist, and licensed clinical social worker. During this evaluation, we determine the most age-appropriate treatment for your child’s medical conditions and social concerns. Following the assessment, our program coordinator helps you set up your child’s follow-up appointments.
Star Program
The Star Program provides enhanced, coordinated care for children with developmental disabilities through age 18. Our experienced and caring child life specialists conduct a comprehensive assessment in advance of a doctor’s visit or procedure to learn a patient’s likes and dislikes, so their care team can prepare accordingly. Our team is specially trained in caring for children with complex medical and behavioral issues and provides emotional support for patients and their families. Parents of children enrolled in the program can call in advance of their child’s appointment so our team can be properly prepared.
Turner Syndrome Program
The Turner syndrome clinic at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island is the only program of its kind on Long Island. Doctors at our center of care treat girls with this genetic condition through age 25. The pediatric endocrinologists, registered dietitian nutritionists, and cardiologists on our team first conduct a half-day evaluation and then collaborate with your daughter’s pediatrician to develop a comprehensive care plan based on its findings.
