Give back and support NYU Langone's fight against Covid-19.
About My Campaign
I hope you and your family are safe.
Last Tuesday, April 21st, I went to NYU Winthrop to see some of the 750 patients who have been released from Winthrop Hospital due to the Coronavirus. One situation close to my heart is one of my closest friends’ brother, who is 56 years old with no underlying health issues, who was diagnosed with Coronavirus and placed on a ventilator. He was on a ventilator for almost two weeks and was not doing well on the ventilator. The incredible doctors at NYU Winthrop put him on an ECMO machine which at the time was really not being used for people who had the Coronavirus. I believe he was one of the first people in New York to be put on an ECMO machine. Most hospitals have very few ECMO machines and up until then, they had not been used to fight Coronavirus. My friend’s brother’s odds for survival were not great but remarkably after three weeks, he came home on Tuesday, April 21st.
When I got home, I went on the NYU Langone website to donate money and then I spoke to a friend of mine, Dr. Robert Cerfolio, who is the CHO of NYU Langone. I told him the story and asked how I could help.
Although I have been watching a ton of TV and see that hospitals are in need of masks, gowns, gloves, etc. I am astonished that they are still desperate for these safeguards. Additionally, so many of these medical staff, nurses, housekeepers, etc. are in need of food during their minimal breaks. After thinking about my friend’s situation and speaking to Dr. Cerfolio, I decided to do my part and try to raise donations from my colleagues and friends. Please join me in supporting this worthy cause.
Thank you so much.
