About My Campaign
Hi! I'm Mara Karamitopoulos. I am a pediatric orthopedic surgeon at the Neuromuscular Clinic at NYU's Center for Children. I am running the New York City marathon this year to raise money for adaptive equipment for children with CP and other neuromuscular conditions.
Many of my patients with Cerebral Palsy (CP) are not able to access the equipment they need to thrive because insurance simply doesn't pay for it. For many of our patients, especially those families that live at or below the poverty line, out-of-pocket expenses are insanely expensive. Even as little as a $20 expense can be a true burden on these families.
Adaptive equipment makes a real quality of life impact for these children and includes items such as stretch straps, wheelchair/stander attachments, and adaptive bicycles.
Children should not suffer these types of hardships when so little can make such a large impact. Please help me raise money to enable these children to reach their greatest potential.
