About My Campaign
On May 26, Nicolas will be turning 2 1/2 years old! Lucas will be almost 6 1/2 months, and Mom and Dad are hoping to get at least one full night of sleep between now and then!
We have so much to be thankful for, and we look forward to celebrating with you at The Old Greenwich Social Club on Saturday, May 30 from 3-6pm. In lieu of gifts (if you've seen our house, you know we don't need ant more toys!), we ask that you please consider the following:
As many of you know, when Nicolas was 6 months old, he was diagnosed with a rare and potentially serious form of epilepsy. Thanks to one amazing doctor, who was smart and quick enough to recognize Nicolas's behavior, he was treated quickly and effectively. Unfortunately, as is often the nature of epilepsy, seizures can take different forms and respond (or not respond) to different medications over time. This was the case with Nicolas, who, after nearly a year without seizures, relapsed. We were lucky to be introduced to a terrific team at NYU. After spending his second birthday and most of Thanksgiving in the hospital at NYU, we are thrilled to be going on 6 months seizure free, and hoping for a lifetime. Nicolas is doing the best he's ever done - we are so proud of him! Not only that, we are beyond grateful. We have had the privilege to work with some of the a best doctors in the world. We will never be able to repay them for what they have done for Nicolas (and us!). One small way that we can say thank you is to ask our friends and family, in lieu of a birthday gift for Nicolas, to consider donating to FACES (Finding A Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures). It is because of the money that has been donated to this foundation that our neurologist has had the opportunity to be part of a team that created a medication that stopped Nicolas's seizures. It is because of the research and commitment to finding a cure for epilepsy that NYU is committed to, that Nicolas is seizure free and progressing everyday. There is no obligation to donate, nor is it a requirement to join us in celebrating on May 30, however, if you were considering bringing him a gift for this half birthday we are celebrating, we ask that this is it.
Lastly, this celebration is also a thank you. It is a thank you to each and every one of you invited. We are so sorry that we have not returned text messages or phone calls and that we have not been able to have you all over for dinner or to play. We wish we could have joined you all at certain events or dinners, and we are sorry that we said we were coming and didn't, we really haven't slept! Thanks for standing by us, for your support, for your continued friendship and for the well wishes you all have sent. We are lucky for so many reasons.
We cannot wait to celebrate with you on May 30 and hopefully at many more events going forward.
Lots of love,
Matt, Veronica, NICO, and Lucas
