About My Campaign
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I’m writing to ask for your support as I embark on a tremendous challenge. The current administration has shifted funding away from my research groups’ work in Africa, leaving us with a $500,000 deficit. This work, aimed at preventing HIV and other infectious diseases, is critically important both to us and to the people of Swaziland. To show how serious this is to me, I have enrolled in a trail-running marathon "CircumBurke" which will take place in the wild and woolly Northeast Kingdom of Vermont on October 13, 2018. Not only is it the standard 26.2 miles but it also involves 5 mountains and more than 3,000 feet of vertical climb. I’ve never done a trail-running marathon before but there’s always a first time. Come sun, rain, snow or hail, I’ll be there, testing the limits of physical endurance in support of global HIV treatment and prevention. If you like, you can do it too!
Would you pledge an amount per mile that I trek to support our Africa work? What a great way to “vote with your wallet” against myopic policies and to aid those in need in a meaningful way. Please help bring a smile to Dr. Tsitsi Apollo’s face (my African counterpart) when she learns that our project is still on! Pledged funds would go into an NYU Langone account to support our work, and it is tax-deductible.
If you live comfortably, please consider pledging $10 per mile or more. I would be grateful for any amount you can contribute. Thank you for your consideration of supporting this endeavor to promote human health and goodwill between nations. There are two ways to donate – donate in advance of the event by selecting "Give Now" or email a “promise” to me at Scott.Braithwaite@nyumc.org and we will prompt you after the event is complete.
