Introducing New York’s Newest Children’s Hospital

Thanks in large part to support from friends like you, Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone welcomed the first young patients and families to its new inpatient facility this summer. Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital is New York City’s first new children’s hospital in nearly 15 years, and the city’s only pediatric inpatient facility with exclusively private rooms.

Faculty and staff carefully moved children from our pediatric units to the new hospital this summer. One such patient was Grace, a 12-year old girl from Texas, who traveled to Hassendfeld Children's Hospital for her 29th surgery. When she found out she was going to be the very first pediatric intensive care patient to move—into a corner room on Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital’s 9th floor, with views of the East River and the Chrysler Building—she could hardly contain her excitement.

“Grace has an incredibly special personality,” said Rebecca Morse, LMSW, social worker in the pediatric intensive care unit. “She is very involved in her medical care. She stands in on rounds every day, and has learned everything that she can about her trach, and how to care for it.
