About Me

As an interventional cardiologist, I perform cardiac catheterization to diagnose coronary artery disease, and perform coronary interventions with stents for people who have blockages in the arteries.

In some cases, such as during a heart attack, I have the privilege of performing lifesaving catheterizations. In these emergency situations, I often do not have a lot of time to talk to a patient, but I believe strongly in doing all I can to earn his or her trust. I acknowledge each person’s concerns and explain the treatment process. I reassure patients that although this is a new experience for him or her, it’s not new for me and my team. My expertise is opening blocked arteries, and NYU Langone’s Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory is one of the best places in the country for this procedure.

Because cardiac catheterization, also known as angiogram, allows us to visualize the inside of the arteries, it is also used as a diagnostic tool. Sometimes a person is experiencing symptoms, such as chest pain, or has received abnormal results from a stress test or other noninvasive cardiac test. Using catheterization, I can determine if there is a blockage, and if so whether that blockage needs to be fixed.

People with stable obstructive coronary artery disease also come to me for a second opinion. There are many different treatment options for treating patients with blocked arteries, including medication, bypass surgery, and coronary stenting. Every person is unique, and different treatments may be more appropriate depending on a person’s condition.

I knew from age 19 that I wanted to be an interventional cardiologist, when as an undergraduate conducting stent design research I saw firsthand how technology and innovation could dramatically improve people’s lives. I have taken my knowhow and combined it with my drive to improve patient education and experience. As a doctor, I appreciate the opportunity to educate people on their choices and help them make the decisions that are best for their individual needs.
