Research Summary

Dr. Valerie Peck is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, NYU Langone Health. Dr. Peck is a prominent member of the Division of Endocrinology with a large clinical practice in endocrinology, and a major teaching role of students, residents, and endocrine fellows. Dr. Peck graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Barnard College, Columbia University and earned her medical degree from NYU School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Bellevue-NYU Medical Center, where she also completed her fellowship in endocrinology.

Dr. Peck’s clinical practice encompasses all areas of endocrinology with emphasis on thyroid, parathyroid, osteoporosis, menopause, PCOS, pituitary, adrenal, and obesity. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Peck is involved in clinical research projects in the areas of thyroid and osteoporosis.

Dr. Peck is recognized by NYU Langone for her expertise in thyroid diseases, which are a large part of her clinical practice and one of her research interests. Dr. Peck is a faculty member of the NYU Langone Thyroid Unit and is the Co-Director of the New York Thyroid Club. She is the Chair of the Clinical Affairs Committee of the American Thyroid Association. Dr. Peck specializes in fine-needle aspiration biopsy of thyroid nodules under ultrasound guidance, and has extensive experience with patients with autoimmune thyroid disorders and thyroid cancer.

Dr. Peck is also recognized for her clinical expertise in managing patients with osteoporosis. She is the Co-Director of the Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Disease Program of the Department of Medicine. Dr. Peck has given many lectures on osteoporosis at NYU Langone and several other medical centers and is the Co-Director of a yearly CME course on osteoporosis at NYU Langone. Osteoporosis is also a large part of her clinical practice, and she has extensive experience with patients on bisphosphonate therapy and all osteoporosis therapies. Dr. Peck’s clinical research projects focus on atypical femoral fractures associated with long-term treatment with bisphosphonates. She has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals on this topic and is the principle investigator in further ongoing studies in coordination with the orthopedic and radiology departments.

Dr. Peck is a member of many professional organizations including Endocrine Society, American Thyroid Association, American Society of Bone and Mineral Research, and American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.

Dr. Peck has been named by her peers to the Super Doctors® list 2009-2020, and Castle Connolly Top Doctors 2009-2020, and has been featured in New York Magazine’s Best Doctors, most recently in 2020.
