About Me

A career in medicine is a privilege. Serving others as a physician is a way for me to use my interpersonal and communication skills, medical knowledge, and passion for education to help improve the lives of individuals, families, and communities. I chose obstetrics and gynecology, specifically maternal fetal medicine, because it provides the unique opportunity to help care for a woman and her unborn child during a complicated pregnancy. It also provides the opportunity to help women who are considering pregnancy—to optimize care prior to conception and improve the chance for successful pregnancy outcomes.

All of my patients are women who are pregnant or want to become pregnant and are at risk for complicated pregnancies. I provide routine obstetrical care for women who are at high risk for complications due to maternal medical disorders, problems with the fetus, or any high-risk condition that may be associated with pregnancy. I also serve as a consultant to general obstetricians. The most common medical illnesses I treat include hypertension, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, and blood-clotting disorders.

I also see patients who are at increased risk for preterm birth, including twin gestations or high-order multiple gestations, women with cervical insufficiency, or women with a history of preterm birth. Common fetal illnesses that I treat include birth defects, chromosomal abnormalities, genetic syndromes, congenital infections, and intrauterine growth abnormalities. Before pregnancy, I see women for preconception consultation to help them think about and prepare for the risks of pregnancy, especially when the patient has a medical condition, such as diabetes or hypertension, or may be on medication for other chronic medical conditions. If a woman has had a prior adverse pregnancy outcome, preconception consultation can be helpful in planning for the next pregnancy.

Some of the procedures that I perform are obstetric ultrasounds for screening and diagnostic examination of the fetus, placenta, uterus, and cervix. I also perform prenatal diagnostic procedures, including chorionic villus sampling (CVS) and amniocentesis, and common obstetric procedures, such as external cephalic version, cerclage, vaginal delivery, and cesarean delivery.

I believe that a woman should be empowered to make decisions regarding her medical care and that her relationship with her physician is one of mutual respect and understanding. It is a partnership where education about her health, the health of her child, and potential treatment options are crucial to creating a management plan that will result in a successful pregnancy.

At NYU Winthrop Hospital, every patient deserves an individualized management plan during pregnancy. Our team provides this. No two patients or two pregnancies are the same.
