Research Summary
Corita Grudzen, MD, MSHS, FACEP is the Vice Chair for Research in the Ronald O. Perelman Department of Emergency Medicine and Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Population Health at NYU School of Medicine in New York City. Her program of research focuses on understanding and improving the quality of care patients with serious, life-limiting illness receive in the ED setting, with a specific focus on matching goals of care to treatments. Dr. Grudzen graduated from Stanford University; she received her MD from the University of California, San Francisco, and a Master’s of Science in Health Sciences (MSHS) from the University of California, Los Angeles. She is a graduate of the Emergency Medicine Residency at New York University/Bellevue Hospital Center, where she served as a chief resident, and she completed the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program in health services research at the University of California, Los Angeles. Beginning in 2012, she served as an Innovation Advisor to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, and as the Metric Lead on an over $12 million Health Care Innovation Award titled, “Geriatric Emergency Department Innovations in Care through Workforce, Informatics and Structural Enhancements”. She has content expertise in qualitative research, patient-centered outcomes research, emergency care, and palliative medicine, and served on the National Advisory Board for the Center to Advance Palliative Care’s IPAL-EM initiative to integrate palliative care and emergency medicine. She received the 2015 Academy for Women in Academic Emergency Medicine Research Award and Sojourn Scholars Award by the Cambia Health Foundation to recognize national leaders in palliative care. She is Chair of the 2016 Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Consensus Conference, which brings together leaders within and outside emergency medicine to set the research agenda for years to come. She is also Co-Chair of the NCI-sponsored Comprehensive Oncologic Emergencies Research Network (CONCERN), the goal of which is to accelerate knowledge generation, synthesis, and translation of oncologic emergency medicine research through multi-center collaborations. She is currently funded by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, and the Cambia Health Foundation.
