Chaplain Internship Program
NYU Langone’s commitment to teaching future healthcare professionals extends to chaplaincy services. Three times a year, we host interns who are pursuing Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), or postgraduate training, through the HealthCare Chaplaincy Network. Through the program, interns learn how to listen to and engage with patients and their loved ones, establish rapport, and respond to verbal and nonverbal communication.
Interns are required to spend 300 hours of clinical time visiting patients and families, plus 100 hours of classroom and individual education. CPE students include those who want to go on to become board-certified chaplains or attain certification as supervisors from the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, seminarians required to take one unit of CPE as part of their degree program, and local clergy wanting to improve their pastoral care skills.
