Outpatient Integrative Health Services

We offer numerous classes, treatments sessions, and consultations for members of the community. Our goal at NYU Langone is to help you improve your quality of life, manage symptoms related to medical conditions, cope with illness, and help you take control of your health.

We recognize that each person is more than the sum of his or her parts and that attention to all aspects of your being, including mind, body, and spirit, is essential to health and wellness.

All treatments are delivered by licensed healthcare professionals with advanced training in integrative health. Call 212-263-5767 or email mindbody@nyumc.org for class times and rate information. Services are not reimbursable by insurance.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine during which a practitioner uses hair-thin needles to stimulate specific points on the body. This practice is believed to promote the body’s own healing system and restore its proper function.

Studies suggest that acupuncture may help acute and chronic pain, such as low-back, knee, and neck pain, and reduce the frequency of tension and migraine headaches

We also offer trigger point acupuncture, which works by placing acupuncture needles in the area of the body that is triggering your pain, not necessarily the site of the pain. This treatment addresses pain and tightness in the muscles.

Ear acupuncture is a more minimal system of acupuncture that uses points only on the ear to relax the autonomic nervous system. It has been used to treat stress, anxiety, insomnia, and symptoms of withdrawal from drug and alcohol dependence. Group sessions are available.

Cost: Initial 60-minute visit, $125; follow-up visits, $95; group ear acupuncture sessions, $20

Guided Imagery

Guided imagery uses your imagination and all five senses for relaxation, distraction, and healing. Sessions involve helping you create imagery and teaching you how to focus your attention to it.

Cost: 30-minute session, $40; 50-minute session, $75

Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a state of focused attention and concentration that allows us to tap into our inner resources to meet a desired goal. It can be helpful in managing stress and pain, promoting behavior changes such as quitting smoking and weight control, and improving performance in exercise, work, and even your creativity. Self-hypnosis can be taught for later use.

Cost: Initial evaluation $100; treatment sessions $75

Learn how to use mindfulness and awareness techniques to change your relationship with food. The purpose of this program is to understand and acknowledge the emotions associated with eating, and to learn how to enjoy food with all of your senses and eat more calmly when you are alone or with others. These techniques can help you with day-to-day eating as well as during special occasions and holidays.

These useful tools can also help you maintain a balanced, healthy weight and experience a calmer, peaceful, and joyful approach to the food you choose to eat. This program is offered in a group setting and to individuals.

Prenatal Massage

Pregnancy can put significant stress on the body, both physically and mentally. Prenatal massage helps pregnant women feel more relaxed and comfortable. It can also help alleviate the pain, muscle tension, and fatigue that are commonly experienced as the body changes to accommodate a growing baby. We work with women who are in their second and third trimesters, experiencing a healthy pregnancy, and wish to relax and feel more at ease in their changing bodies.

Cost: 50-minute session, $100; three 50-minute sessions, $280

Reflexology

Reflexology is a scientific art based on the premise that there are zones and reflex areas in the feet and hands that correspond to all body parts. The physical act of applying specific pressure using thumb, finger, and hand techniques results in stress reduction that causes a physiological change in the body.

Reiki

Reiki is an ancient, gentle, noninvasive, hands-on technique that facilitates deep relaxation and healing. The practitioner places her or his hands lightly on or close to your body in a series of positions. The goal is to release the flow of energy through your body that practitioners believe promotes the body’s ability to heal itself in order to decrease pain, ease muscle tension, and relieve insomnia.

Our yoga classes are meant to be therapeutic and are taught in an adaptive style. The physical condition and limitations of each student are taken into consideration, and all postures can be modified to suit a student’s individual needs and goals.

Fundamentals of Yoga is a six-week class. Participants are taught how to avoid potential injury and how to include yoga as part of an active lifestyle. Classes are taught by a certified therapeutic yoga instructor.
