Guided Meditation & Relaxation

Guided meditation and relaxation exercises can inspire a sense of peace and wellbeing and reduce your stress during treatment.

Weekly Meditation Group

A meditation group is held from 12:00PM to 12:30PM on Mondays at the Meditation Room at NYU Langone’s Tisch Hospital, located down the blue pathway past the Tisch Hospital elevators. The Meditation Room is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for prayer and quiet reflection. 

Ask your nurse if you need assistance getting to the Meditation Room. The weekly meditation is offered in collaboration with Chaplaincy Services.

Relaxation Exercises

You can be guided through three- or nine-minute relaxation exercises over the phone by calling our relaxation hotline from your hospital room or your personal phone. Please call 212-404-3800; we are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 

We also offer cards that provide step-by-step instructions on relaxation techniques such as focused breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and guided imagery. Cards are available in English, Spanish, Chinese, and Russian.

Breathing exercises can be done anywhere, anytime, making them one of the easiest types of relaxation exercises. 

Try this simple breathing technique: While breathing in and out slowly and steadily, focus your mind on an intention such as relaxation, calmness, or letting go of negative thoughts. Imagine seeing your intention in big, bold letters in your mind, or silently or softly say the word to yourself as you exhale.
