Events for Patients & Families
Children love a party, and so at Stephen D. Hassenfeld Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, part of Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone, we take every opportunity to celebrate and let kids be kids. From birthday parties to end-of-treatment celebrations, we believe in helping children mark the important milestones and accomplishments in their lives.
Back to School Blast
To gear children up for returning to the classroom, we host an annual Back to School Blast. In past years, children have received school supplies and backpacks, and were able to participate in educational sessions with members of the New York City Fire Department, the Museum of Modern Art, dentists from NYU School of Dentistry, and other community educators.
The event celebrates the various ways children return to school, including home instruction or the traditional classroom. Parents and guardians are invited to participate in information-sharing about helping their children transition back into the academic environment.
Family Fun Day
We host an annual summer Family Fun Day to give patients, siblings, parents, caregivers, family members, and staff a chance to enjoy a day of fun away from the clinic.
In past years, we’ve had barbecue lunches and entertainment such as clowns, face painting, a DJ and karaoke, a raffle, and group games in a rented hall in New York City. All patients of Stephen D. Hassenfeld Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders and their families are invited to attend.
We strive to bring holiday cheer and fun to children and their families. From trick-or-treating around the clinic at Halloween to exchanging valentines, the holidays are a special time for the children we care for. Throughout the year, the children engage in holiday-related crafts and festivities. The year culminates in a month of parties when all families are invited to enjoy activities, food, and gifts.
