Family Faculty Program
The Family Faculty Program trains family members of children cared for at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital of New York at NYU Langone to use their personal experience to educate physicians, nurses, and hospital staff about best approaches to delivering child and family centered care.
“Other hospitals have family-centered care programs, but very few places value it all the way from the boardroom to the bedside. Ours is truly found at every level of the organization.”
—Ron-Li Liaw, MD
Director, Pediatric Psychiatry Consultation–Liaison Service, Director, Sala Institute Center for Child and Family Resilience
Members of the Family Faculty Program share their personal stories and discuss topics such as the importance of good communication between families and the medical team. They also provide education about how honest information, delivered with respect and care, can empower families during the decision making process. The unique perspective offered by family faculty members creates a deeper understanding among hospital staff about the experiences of patients and families.
The Family Faculty Program is an important component of our mission to advance a culture of child and family centered care through education. The program is made possible through the Sala Institute for Child and Family Centered Care.
