Child Study Center Specialties & Services
The Child Study Center, part of Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital of New York at NYU Langone, has expertise in a variety of fields, including child and adolescent psychiatry, clinical psychology, social work, education, and academic achievement. Our world-class clinicians are selected for their outstanding knowledge, experience, dedication, and compassion for every child and family. We are trained in the most advanced, research-based treatments and diagnostic techniques. Our experts work together as a team to develop a plan tailored to the specific needs of a child and family.
We treat children with a range of mental health conditions, including anxiety and mood disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and behavior disorders, autism spectrum disorders, eating disorders, sexual and gender identity issues, learning disorders, selective mutism, sleep-related disorders, childhood traumatic stress, and tic and Tourette disorders.
Our team offers several types of individualized evaluations to pinpoint the source of your child’s challenges. For example, we may perform a psychiatric evaluation to understand your child’s emotional and behavioral difficulties, and determine a diagnosis and create a treatment plan.
For children who struggle academically or face challenges related to giftedness, our experts at the Institute for Learning and Academic Achievement, diagnose learning challenges and the effects of brain injury through neuropsychological, psychological, and psychoeducational evaluations.
For children with symptoms of autism spectrum disorder or social communication disorder, we have a dedicated Autism Spectrum Disorder Service. As part of treatment, we can observe your child in the classroom and work with school personnel.
