Celebrating the Best Care, Brooklyn Style

NYU Langone and NYU Lutheran in Brooklyn welcomed in a future of bringing the best care to more patients than ever before at the first official NYU Lutheran Dinner Dance. With almost 500 supporters in attendance, the evening toasted the new NYU Lutheran partnership and raised over $800,000 for the expansion of one of the busiest emergency departments in Brooklyn

“Our ties to Brooklyn are strong, so we’re absolutely thrilled to be reaching more Brooklynites right where they live,” said Robert I. Grossman, MD, Saul J. Farber Dean and CEO of NYU Langone. “This merger is a game-changer.”

The NYU Lutheran Dinner Dance took place Wednesday, April 6 at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers. Carla Solomon, a longtime trustee of NYU Langone Health System and newer member of the NYU Lutheran Advisory Board, and Antonio Magliocco Jr., president of Bulldog Ventures LTD, were honored for their decades of service.

“It is Nino and I who feel honored,” said Ms. Solomon, “to be participating in this exciting moment for NYU Lutheran and NYU Langone, as we go forward together. We see not one but two boats chugging regularly, bringing together two boroughs and two locations, each representing a dimension of one great healthcare institution.”

Claudia Lyon, DO, chair of the Department of Family Medicine, was also recognized for her 23 years of leadership with Lutheran.

“l started here as a medical student and have built my career here,” said Dr. Lyon. “I felt from the very beginning that this was the kind of place I wanted to work. Lutheran’s people are supportive, welcoming, and really live to serve this community.”

In addition to raising funds for the emergency department, the Dinner Dance garnered support from attendees who filled out pledge cards to support a variety of NYU Lutheran programs, including one that provides expecting mothers with helpful parenting resources and another that covers co-pays and deductibles for low-income families.

Guests mingle at cocktail hour.
