An Afternoon with KiDS
On Sunday, November 15th, children of all ages came together at Bowlmor Chelsea Piers for KiDS Family Fun Day, hosted by KiDS of NYU Langone. The afternoon was reserved for play—40 lanes of bowling, arcade games, laser tag, and more—with a greater purpose: uniting children, families, physicians, nurses, social workers, and many others who champion, advocate for, and benefit from children’s services at NYU Langone.
At the event, KiDS continued a long tradition of hands-on support that helps children in the hospital get what they need—families prepared gift bags and made get-well-soon cards that were later delivered to patients.
This year’s KiDS Family Fun Day was also a great way to kick off a year of festivities—2016 marks 25 years of philanthropy, community service, and advocacy for KiDS. In 1991, a small group of concerned parents and physicians came together and started KiDS of NYU Langone. And today, due in part to KiDS and its two and a half decades of hard work, NYU Langone can deliver the best, most comprehensive, most child- and family-centered care possible to each and every pediatric patient. That’s definitely something to celebrate.
“KiDS of NYU Langone works to enhance clinical and supportive care for children and families, fund research into childhood illnesses, and promote a nurturing environment that allows kids to be kids, even while they are in the hospital. KiDS Family Fun Day was a wonderful way for us to come together to honor these important efforts,” said Catherine S. Manno, MD, the Pat and John Rosenwald Professor of Pediatrics and chair of the Department of Pediatrics.
KiDS of NYU Langone supports a wide range of pediatric initiatives, including child and family-friendly waiting areas, an expansion of the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Program, and therapeutic and recreational activities.
