About Me

I was drawn to orthopaedic surgery because of the nature of the field: when surgery is necessary, we perform a procedure that is designed to ensure a quick recovery, and the results are immediate. The improvements to quality of life are immense.

Hip surgery, in particular, is a complex subspecialty that appeals to me because of its three-dimensional challenges and my love of anatomy. I perform robotic and computer-assisted hip replacement surgery, a minimally invasive and tissue-preserving procedure that I can customize for each of my patients. This can help them to recover and regain their quality of life as soon as possible.

I also perform hip preservation surgery, including hip arthroscopy, surgical hip dislocation, and hip osteotomy—specifically a procedure called the Ganz, or periacetabular, osteotomy, which is aimed at preventing the development of arthritis and the need for hip replacement surgery. Being able to perform multiple procedures—both to prevent arthritis and manage it—means I can provide people with the best treatment options for their condition and lifestyle. I want my patients to understand these options so we can pick the best treatment together.

I spend a lot of time with my patients. They know exactly what their condition means for them, if surgery is necessary, and how their quality of life will improve afterward. First, I make sure we have done everything we can to manage the condition without a surgery. Then, I explain how the procedures I perform lead to rapid recovery and fast results, and I make sure my patients are comfortable with, and knowledgeable about, everything surgery entails.

In addition to surgery, I perform research on ways to improve customized hip replacement, the outcomes of robotic-assisted techniques, and how best to teach our residents and fellows the proper way to perform hip and knee surgery. I also analyze how different technology can increase accuracy and perfect these procedures.

My Research

1. Computer Assisted and Robotic Surgery: development of techniques to provide the most accuracy for hip and knee replacement, prevent dislocations, and preserve bone.

2. Minimally-invasive Reduced Trauma Surgery: development of techniques to minimize tissue damage during surgery to speed recovery and prevent complications.

3.Patient Care Experience: educating medical students and residents on how to be the best doctor, providing nurturing care which achieve optimized outcomes for surgery.
