Legg-Calvé-Perthes Disease in Children

Orthopedic specialists at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone are experienced in diagnosing and treating children with Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease, also called Perthes disease. This rare condition occurs when a temporary interruption in blood flow to one hip causes pain, inflammation, and abnormal development of the joint. Our doctors assess your child’s condition and symptoms before recommending treatments that are designed to reduce inflammation and pain and prevent further damage to the hip joint as your child grows.

Doctors at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital also participate in the International Perthes Study Group, an internationally recognized consortium of pediatric orthopedic surgeons and researchers working to improve treatment for children with Perthes disease.
