Concussion Tracker App

Concussion Tracker App SplashOur Concussion Center research team at NYU Langone is currently enrolling participants in a concussion study using the NYU Langone Concussion Tracker app.

A concussion is a mild form of a traumatic brain injury caused by a blow to the head or the body that shakes the brain inside the skull, which can damage brain tissue and disrupt brain function. A concussion may result from a fall, a car accident, an assault, or involvement in sports, such as football, soccer, hockey, lacrosse, gymnastics, and skiing.

About Our Concussion Study

Concussion Tracker DashboardThe purpose of NYU Langone’s study is to explore whether using a mobile application that you download onto your iPhone® and Apple Watch®, if you have the watch available, can help you record information about symptoms as well as physical and cognitive function after the diagnosis of concussion. This app is called Concussion Tracker.

The main objective of this exploratory study is to collect information using new technology to obtain patient-reported outcomes, to record heart rate, and to record information about physical and cognitive function for six weeks after subjects have been diagnosed with a concussion, as well as to test the feasibility of our approach.

Eligibility for the Study

You can participate in the study if you meet all of the following requirements:

  • you are 18 years old or older
  • you have been diagnosed by a healthcare provider with a concussion sustained within 10 days of enrollment
  • you are under the care of a healthcare provider
  • you can read and understand English in order to provide informed consent and follow instructions
  • you live in the United States

If you choose to participate in this study, your participation is expected to last six weeks. After six weeks, your app data will no longer be analyzed as part of the study; however, you will be free to continue using the app for personal insight, if you wish.

Key Features of the Concussion Tracker App

With the Concussion Tracker app, you can do the following:

  • report your daily symptoms and the results of a daily six-minute walking test and a concentration task
  • measure your heart rate throughout the study, if you have an Apple Watch®
  • share a dashboard of your results to show your doctor, if you choose
