Our inpatient 30-bed adult rehabilitation unit located at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn is a stroke rehabilitation Joint Commission accredited site. We often admit patients from NYU Langone’s Comprehensive Stroke Center, which is certified by the Joint Commission as a comprehensive stroke center. We also care for patients receiving treatment for neurological conditions, including multiple sclerosis and brain tumor.
We have extensive experience providing rehabilitation care for people recovering from life-threatening accidents, including limb loss and spinal cord injury. Many of these patients come to us through the Emergency Department at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, which houses the only Level 1 Trauma Center in Brooklyn.
Upon admission, you are assigned to a rehabilitation team. Each team includes a physical therapist, occupational therapist, and speech-language pathologist, as well as neuropsychologist, social worker, nutritionist, nurse, and a physiatrist, who is a doctor that specializes in rehabilitation medicine. Our experts ensure that you and your family members are also an important part of the care team.
Treatment begins the day you are admitted to Rusk Rehabilitation at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn. Every patient receives a minimum of 3 hours of therapy per day for a total of 15 hours of individualized rehabilitation per week. While in our unit, you also receive around-the-clock medical care as needed from our nursing staff and physicians.
Our accreditation as an inpatient rehabilitation center by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities applies to services at Rusk Rehabilitation at Tisch Hospital and Rusk Rehabilitation at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital.
Kara N. Nizolek, CCC-SLP, PhD, is the site director for rehabilitation therapy services at Rusk Rehabilitation at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn. Rusk Rehabilitation also offers inpatient services at Tisch Hospital and NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital.
